To create the oxide layer on the aluminum profile, it is immersed in a sulfuric acid bath. An electric current is then passed through the bath, releasing pure oxygen. The oxygen reacts with the aluminum, forming the oxide layer.
Because sulfuric acid is a strong acid that can attack aluminum, the profile is thoroughly and extensively rinsed after the acid bath. This ensures that all sulfuric acid is removed from the aluminum.
The oxide layer is still porous at this stage. Therefore, it is sealed after rinsing. The pores in the aluminum are closed during this sealing process, making the profile highly resistant to corrosion.
